About Learning Prep School

Students are often referred by evaluators, school districts, and/or family and friends. Our student population has evolved from one solely comprised of deaf/hearing impaired children and Aphasic children to a student body of language based learning disabled children. This includes children with Dyslexia, Aspergers, Traumatic Brain Injury, Tourette Syndrome, NVLD, etc.

Learning Prep School differs from other schools because of the amount of one on one, interactive, multi-disciplinary methods of instruction utilized within the classroom. Our program offers children the opportunity to; strengthen their academic skills in small classes, explore their interests in an array of electives, engage in social activities hosted by the student council and after school programs, emotionally heal, accept, and learn to embrace who they are through our counseling services, and learn self advocacy and life skills through our work study program.

Learning Prep School, has been recognized as an educational environment which has successfully upheld a No Tolerance for Bullies Zone. This philosophy has been created and engendered for forty two years as a genuine understanding that our students all too often arrive at our doorsteps after enduring insurmountable levels of teasing, bullying and chastising from their prior environments. Our staff is dedicated to ensure that your child is able to learn, play and socialize in a safe environment at all times and is provided with multiple outlets to freely express any discomfort.

Services which facilitate academic, social and emotional development are offered for students in grades 2-12. While the Elementary and Middle School operates in a separate building than the High School and differentiate by content and material, the philosophy engendered throughout the program remains constant. Learning Prep School is a 766 accredited program. For the past forty two years, this uniquely structured program has allowed our staff to provide the highest quality care for our children to meet both academic and therapeutic needs and we continue this commitment for all that pass through our doors.

All too often society is quick to impose limits on our children, but at Learning Prep School we do not identify our students by their learning challenges. Rather we respect them as individuals and value their strengths while building up their weaknesses. We challenge, encourage and ultimately empower our students to determine their own goals and provide them with the tools to help them achieve their dreams.

If you miss the sparkle in your child's eyes, the sound of their laughter and the bounce in their step; we implore you to take a closer look. Learning Prep School might just be the answer to assist you and get your child back on a healthy and happy track.
Admissions Process:

Before we can offer tours/interviews, we ask that you forward current student records (within the last two years only) to our office. This information gives us a more accurate description of the student\'s current needs and abilities and allows us to give you a better picture of how our program can meet those individual needs.

If you haven\'t had the student tested within the last two years and are anticipating testing soon, please wait until you get the new testing results before sending records to our office.

Records to include:

Student testing (done through the school system - the Team\'s \"Core \" evaluation.
Evaluations/testing done through a private evaluator, Dr. \'s Office, Hospital, Special Needs Evaluation Center, etc.
A copy of the student\'s current/latest IEP - even if it is a rejected or unsigned Educational Plan that is still being updated.
Progress Reports from the student\'s current placement and any updates from attending physicians or therapists.
The Student\'s Intake Admissions Form.
Student Health Intake Form.
School Records Release Form.

Our director will review the records and make a decision on his/her possible placement at the Learning Prep School. If we don\'t feel that this placement would be suitable for the student, we will return your records.

Tuition for the 2012- 2013 academic year is $39, 311.54.

If it is determined that this might be an appropriate placement, we will contact you to arrange for you to bring the student in for a tour and an interview. After the interview, if it is felt that the student is an appropriate candidate, arrangements will be made for the student to attend LPS for two \"trial\" days. The final decision for acceptance is based upon input from the administration and staff during the trial weeks and is relayed to the student and family by the Director.
