About Bridges Montessori School

Mission
The faculty and staff of Bridges Montessori are dedicated to providing a nurturing and secure environment based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Ours is an environment that cherishes the whole child. We believe each individual is unique and deserving of our respect. We embrace the differences in everyone and strive to create a community of acceptance and joy, not only with the children, but with the family as well.
Our program emphasizes academic and intellectual advancement, as well as social, emotional, and physical development. Our goal is to foster confident, independent learners with a high degree of self-discipline and a desire to continue to grow and learn. In addition, we teach the children how to work as part of a larger community, that of the classroom. They learn to solve problems, to make decisions and resolve conflict peaceably. Through this relationship with the classroom and those within it, they are able to satisfy their learning potential, lay a foundation for future learning, and gain a positive regard for themselves and others.
Description
Bridges Montessori is based on the philosophy and method of education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. Through her research, Dr. Montessori discovered children have a natural curiosity and desire to learn. She found that each child goes through developmental periods that are œsensitive to different areas of learning. She discovered that learning a concept or skill during a corresponding œsensitive period provides opportunities for true understanding, not just rote memorization. Therefore, these periods are optimal times for children to discover new abilities and master them. Montessori teachers are trained to recognize these œsensitive periods and guide the child in an optimal learning path.
