How to Apply

In order to be included in the first round of 2013 applicants, please complete the following steps by January 15th. For those applicants applying after this deadline, your application will be considered upon completion.

Take the entrance exam. We require that all candidates take the SSAT (if entering 9th or 10th grade), PSAT or SAT (If entering 11th, 12th, or PG). In addition, the TOEFL is required for students whose first language is not English. To insure that we receive the results of the test(s), please be sure your son or daughter knows the Pomfret School code (SSAT = 5842; TOEFL = 8141) and lists it on his/her test answer sheet. Registration material and information regarding test dates/locations is available at SSAT or TOEFL. Test results must be received by our Admissions Office by January 15th in order to complete your application. Therefore, you should register for these tests as soon as possible.

Visit the campus and interview with a Pomfret admissions officer.
This step is a required part of the application process. Please call the Admissions Office (860-963-6120) as soon as possible to schedule a visit. If a visit to Pomfret School is not feasible, the Admissions Office may be able to arrange for you to speak with a designated Pomfret graduate in your area.

Submit teacher recommendations. Candidates must distribute the three recommendation forms, with return envelopes, to their current English, math, and third academic teacher of their choice, and ask that they return them to the Admissions Office.

Submit transcripts. Parents should sign and submit the Transcript Release form with enclosed return envelope, to their child's school principal or guidance counselor and ask that they send the transcript to the Admissions Office.

Submit application form (either online or by downloading for submission). This must be completed by the candidate and returned to the Admissions Office together with the parent statement. A nonrefundable fee of $60 ($125 for international applicants) must accompany each application. Pomfret School also accepts the SSAT and TABS common applications.

Submit parent statement (either online or by downloading for submission). This must be completed by a parent and returned to the Admissions Office together with the student portion of the application.

If applying for financial aid, please be sure to review our information found by checking the Financial Aid tab in the Admissions section of our website. Financial Aid is need-based and determined based upon a family\'s financial need. We ask applicants to submit all required forms to School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). After their preliminary review, SSS then sends your application to Pomfret School for review. All new families who apply by January 15 and returning families who re-apply by February 1, will receive first consideration for financial aid funds.

For candidates who have completed the application process by January 15th, letters of decision, together with financial aid awards, if applicable, will be mailed on February 15th for day students and March 10th for boarding students. For those applicants who complete the application process after the January 15th deadline, your application will be considered upon completion.
