About La Academia At The Denver Inner City Parish

La Academia is the Denver Inner City Parish's (DICP) private grade 7-12 school and was launched as a DICP educational program in 1971. Most of the students at La Academia have struggled at other public and private schools; qualify for free or reduced cost lunches; self-identify as being Latino; are living at or below the federal poverty-level; and have volatile home and personal lives. Most of the students come to La Academia with reading and math skills that are between 3 and 6 grade levels below their actual grade, and oftentimes they have broken spirits regarding their futures.

The primary goal of La Academia is to re-prioritize education in every student's life so they graduate at a college-ready level or have other viable post-graduation options to choose from. The teachers and staff achieve this by setting extremely high academic standards with a strong support system along with offering activities that challenge student character development. This approach addresses each student as a whole person, versus reducing them to their challenges, problems or needs. La Academia has been incredibly successful in reaching its goals. For example; since 2011, 75% of La Academia's 9th graders have graduated, and between 2006 and 2011, 95% of the graduating classes have gone to college. 100% of the graduates from the 2012 class are currently enrolled in college.
